Social Media
Work Sample Selection/Summary
You might be wondering why a low-quality camera phone photo is the selection to represent my work on Bryan ISD's social media. Becoming "Bryan ISD Famous" has become big in our community primarily because of a standard of success built on quality. Whenever possible, I try to edit every photo, spend extra effort on designing every posted graphic/video, and follow an optimized schedule focused on delivering engaging content. In the land of mindless scrolling, differentiation is key. This photo is included because it goes against the grain, tells an interesting story, and stands out amongst a sea of quality.
My Role
I knew this photo would reach a high level of virality before it was posted. I also knew my role was to frame its description perfectly. The photo was sent to our communications team with a few basic details. I investigated the story further to find out what made it exciting and then edited the photo slightly to make the quality passable. My main role was to tell the story concisely and to tell it well.
Lasting Impact
Posts do well when they give users the feeling that they are observing something special. This post did just that and organically reached nearly 100,000 people! Passing virality is not the goal of our communications department. We are trying to achieve a steady stream of positive content, but it was great to see this uplifting story reach so many people. If hired as the Director of Communications & Marketing for Texas A&M University Libraries, I will do my best to ensure that a good story isn't overlooked because of its perceived level of quality.
